Took up Affiliate Membership at the start of 2011 and the decision paid dividends as he had top tens in the Africa Open, Ballantine’s Championship, BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi and in both Alfred Dunhill Championships played, to finish 92nd in The Race to Dubai. Continued that form into 2012, claiming the Avantha Masters in India in February. Held off Jorge Campillo and Marcel Siem to win by two at the DLF Golf and Country Club, a victory which helped him to 47th place in The Race to Dubai. Enjoyed a hugely successful amateur career, winning six major amateur tournaments in his native South Africa in 2005 and 2006, and in the latter year having 13 top ten finishes. Was runner-up in the Berkshire Trophy in England and was named the Golf Digest South African Amateur of the Year in 2006.
