Did not start playing golf until he was 17 and learned the game from his brother, a single-figure handicapper. Became the first Chinese player to win on the Japan Golf Tour in his first of two victories, before progressing to the Asian Tour. Was the first Chinese player to win on home soil on the European Tour when he captured the 2015 Volvo China Open, before adding a second at the 2016 Lyoness Open and then adding another record to his repertoire by becoming the first Chinese player to win three times on the tour, claiming the 2018 KLM Open title.
