Like his brother-in-law Gary Player, he is one of that elite group of golfers to have won The Senior British Open Championship. His victory came in 1991 at Royal Lytham & St Annes and was the first of five triumphs on the European Seniors Tour, the last being the Credit Suisse Private Banking Seniors Open in 1998. Travelled to Japan at the end of 2000 and won the lucrative Nippon Jurin Senior Open. Prior to turning 50, he twice topped the South African Tour Order of Merit and represented his country in two World Cups. Son of double South African PGA Tour champion, Jock Verwey and his sister, Vivienne, who became Mrs Gary Player.
