Sam Hutsby made a stunning start to his second round to continue his serene progress at the Qualifying School Final Stage.
Starting on the tenth hole of the Stadium Course at PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona, northern Spain, the 23 year old from Portsmouth, England, built on the foundations laid by his opening round of 60 with a birdie at the 12th hole and an eagle three on the 15th.
That moved Hutsby to 13 under par, four shots clear of his compatriot Andy Sullivan, who was four under par for his round through six holes.
Sullivan, also playing on the testing Stadium Course, notched birdies at the 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th holes to move to nine under par, with Norwegian Espen Kofstad also going well on eight under par after collecting four birdies on his front nine.
Of those playing the Tour Course, the scene of Hutsby’s spectacular opening effort, it was Warren Abery who was faring the best after the South African reached the turn in 32 and added a birdie at the first hole to climb to seven under par.
