Liam Bond showed a killer’s instinct at the Qualifying School First Stage Section D at Frilford Heath, finishing on top of the pack after closing with a superb round of 67.
The Welshman led 30 successful qualifiers after finishing on 12 under par in England, three shots clear of England’s Thomas Haylock, who signed off with a 69 for a nine under par aggregate total.
American Elliott Wainwright and Korean Jin Jeong shared third place on six under par after carding respective rounds of 72 and 70.
One of the rounds of the day was posted by Guy Woodman, who shot a 69 to scrape under the five over par cut line with nothing to spare.
A total of 30 players also qualified at Ribagolfe where, despite closing with a round of 74, American Chan Kim finished first on six under par.
Spain’s Pol Bech finished one stroke back in second place after closing with a round of 70. Bech and Kim will be joined by their 28 fellow qualifiers from Portugal at the Second Stage.
