German amateur star Moritz Lampert seized the lead midway through the fourth round of The European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, capitalising on his rivals’ errors on a rainy day at PGA Catalunya Resort in Spain.

The 20 year old, who will turn professional next week, posted birdies at the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth – with a bogey at the sixth his only dropped shot – to move to 13 under par for the tournament, two strokes clear of overnight leader Estanislao Goya of Argentina.

Goya, who lost his European Tour card after finishing 123rd in The 2012 Race to Dubai, just four spots from safety, was two over par for his round following bogeys at the third, fifth and ninth.

The wet and much colder conditions were also giving Italian Matteo Delpodio and Swede Mikael Lundberg a few problems. The pair share second place overnight, but Lundberg was one over for the day and Delpodio endured a torrid front nine on the Stadium Course, slipping to three bogeys and a double.

Finland’s Mikko Korhonen stayed in touch with the lead thanks to a one under par front nine, and he was level with Goya on 11 under par.

The top 70 players and ties at the end of the fourth round will qualify for the final two rounds, played over the Stadium Course, after which the top 25 and ties earn a European Tour card for 2013.
