Englishmen James Ford and Neil Chaudhuri carded rounds of 66 and 67 respectively to share the first round lead at First Stage Qualifying Section D at Frilford Heath Golf Club.
Ford started his round slowly in Oxfordshire before kicking into gear on the back nine, coming home in 32 as he went on to birdie four of the final six holes to sit at six under par, one shot clear of his countryman Chaudhuri. A further seven players sit tied at four under in the chasing pack.
Meanwhile at Bogogno Golf Resort in Italy, Germany’s Dominik Pietzsch set the clubhouse lead with an impressive round of 65 to sit one shot clear of the chasing pack.
The 23 year old fired nine birdies and two bogeys on his way to finishing at seven under par, with Frenchman Alexandre Dadou and Clément Berardo tied at at six under par, followed by a chasing group of ten a further two shots off the pace.
