John Daly was forced into an unexpected play-off for the Open title when Italian Costantino Rocca sunk an amazing 25-yards putt from out of the Valley of Sin at the 18th hole of the Old Course to tie Daly on 282, six under par.  Throughout the final round of the championships several players vied for the lead including Daly, Rocca, Michael Campbell, Steve Elkington, Mark Brooks and Steven Bottomly.  Bottomly had a best of the day final round 69 to finish tied third with Brooks and Campbell for his highest ever professional finish.  Daly made par-birdie-par-par in the four hole play-off to win the Open crown.
