The final Masters Tournament of the 20th Century takes place among the awesome beauty of the azaleas, dogwood and magnolias of Augusta National this week, and for European golfers it represents another opportunity to continue a trend set by Seve Ballesteros two decades ago.
Eighteen European Tour Members Compete at Augusta
A record 18 European Tour Members have been invited to play in the 63rd Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this week.
Montgomerie and Olazábal head Europe's Masters Challenge
Colin Montgomerie made his best ever start to the Masters Tournament to lie a shot off the lead after the rain-shortened first day at Augusta National. His opening two-under-par 70 matched that of 1994 Champion José Maria Olazábal.
Olazábal Eyes second Masters title
Former Masters Champion José Maria Olazábal shot a superb six-under-par 66 to take the lead after the second round of The Masters Tournament.
Olazábal lies one shot ahead of American Scott McCarron, and two ahead of Greg Norman and Lee Janzen.
Olazábal maintains advantage
Although the lead changed ten times, with Greg Norman, Davis Love III, and Lee Janzen all taking the top spot from José Maria Olazábal at varying points, it was the 1994 Masters Champion who was once again at the head of the leaderboard at the end of an enthralling third round.
José Maria Olazábal Wins Masters Tournament
José Maria Olazábal superbly won his second Green Jacket when he came home in an outstanding 33 for a final round of 71 to capture the 1999 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
Bjorn among 13 European Tour Invitations to Masters
Thomas Björn has been invited for the first time to compete in the Masters Tournament which in 1999 takes place at Augusta National on April 8-11.
Changes to Masters Qualifications
Augusta National Golf Club Chairman Hootie Johnson has announced that the Masters has modified its qualifications for invitation with the 2000 tournament. Three of these changes will be effective for the 1999 Masters.
