Søren Hansen doubled his advantage over Thomas Levet to two shots during the early second round exchanges of the Open de España in Girona.

The Danish Ryder Cup player notched his second eagle of the week on the 527 yard 12th - a hole where there have only been three eagles all week so far - before birdieing the 15th to reach 12 under for the tournament after his course record 63 in the opening round.

The Dane still had 11 holes to play but France’s Levet kept the pressure up with three birdies in his first seven holes only for a bogey at the ninth to leave him ten under for the week through 12 holes.

Alejandro Cañizares - yet to drop a shot this week -had advanced to seven under for the week after seven holes of his second round to join compatriot José Manuel Lara in a strong local challenge.

Ireland’s Paul McGinley was five under for his round through ten to join the Spanish pair, who were level with Scot Callum Macaulay who is yet to tee off.
