Simon Khan birdied three of his first eight holes to strike an early blow at the BMW Italian Open.
Five years after his one and only European Tour victory at The Celtic Manor Wales Open, the Englishman picked up shots at the fifth, sixth and eighth at Royal Park I Roveri to join Scotland’s Richie Ramsay in an early share of the lead.
Ramsay is the Aberdeen 25 year old who won the US Amateur title three years ago - no Scottish player had done that since 1898 - and he came through last season's Challenge Tour.
The Scot registered birdies at the first two par four holes and rattled in another at the par five fifth to lie three under through six.
The British contingent were dominating the early scoring, with English pair Richard McEvoy and Stuart Davis two under in the early stages of their rounds along with Ramsay’s compatriot Alan McLean who was through five holes.
