Sergio Garcia hopes to continue his recent improvement on the course at this week's Volvo China Open.

Having been second on the Official World Golf Ranking two years ago, the Spaniard is now down in 73rd - but after an extended break at the end of 2010 there have been signs of a renaissance in recent weeks.

In four starts in 2011 Garcia is yet to miss a cut, and at the Masters Tournament he was right in the hunt until a disappointing third round 75 saw him drift out of contention.

"I think the Masters for the most part was quite positive," he said. "Unfortunately I had a bad nine holes on Saturday afternoon. Other than that it was another step in the right direction, but I'm hoping to come here to Chengdu and continue to do the right things."

Garcia will prepare for the event, staged at Luxehills International Country Club for the first time, by cheering on Real Madrid in the Spanish Cup against Barcelona.

"It would be great," he said, when asked of the prospects of a Real victory being followed by Garcia landing the title on Sunday. "It won't be easy playing against the best team in the world in Barcelona but we'll be watching that and then we'll get ready for tomorrow's round.

"I liked what I saw out there today on the course and hopefully I can play some good golf and keep some momentum on my side and see if we can have a chance.

"I feel good and that my game is coming along nicely. It's just a matter of time. I need to keep putting myself in winning situations and I'll get used to it and it will happen. That's not the biggest of my worries."

Garcia has his brother Victor on the bag this week, with his regular caddy otherwise engaged.

"My brother is caddying for me," he continued. "Both my caddies Glenn and Gary - Glenn is getting married and Gary is best man. So I've bought my third best caddy - my brother!

"He has caddied for me before as an amateur and in a couple of pro events when I was an amateur and in some events in Spain. He's a good player himself so he knows what he is doing. He was scratch handicap."
