Raphaël Jacquelin surged up the leaderboard on day two of the ISPS Handa Wales Open at The Celtic Manor Resort and declared “I’m back!”
After finishing fifth in March’s Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol, the experienced Frenchman has struggled to find his best form and kicked off this week’s event with a disappointing 76.
However, he bounced back in stunning style today, carding seven birdies in a 65 - the lowest round of the week - that lifted him into the top ten on one under.
“I’m very happy with the six under par today,” said Jacquelin.
“I have been practising a lot to find a rhythm and find a feeling and (get the) confidence back. So, I’m back.
“Conditions were a lot easier today and it was playing a little softer, as well, on the greens, but there was still a good feel with my game.”
Jacquelin is now hoping to maintain his fine form as he goes in search of a first European Tour win since last March, when he triumphed in the Sicilian Open.
“I just (need to) keep trying and keep the confidence because, yeah, I’m back, as I said,” he added.
“I’m feeling all right so let’s go and try to shoot low for the rest of the weekend.”
