It was a very different Castle Stuart Golf Links for the final day of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

After three rounds of spectacularly low scoring in calm conditions, the wind was up and there were heavy intermittent showers.

Miguel Angel Jiménez avoided the worst of the weather by going out on his own at 7am and taking less than three hours to return a four under 68, but not one of the next 14 players to finish broke 70.

South African Alex Haindl went to the turn in a nine over par 45 after starting with a quadruple-bogey nine, while Ernie Els turned in 40 - as did his playing partner, 19 year old Scottish amateur Jack McDonald.

Italian Francesco Molinari led overnight on 17 under, one ahead of Denmark's Anders Hansen and two in front of Scot Marc Warren and another Dane, Søren Kjeldsen.

World Number One and defending champion Luke Donald was four back and American star Phil Mickelson three behind.

Even though the weather had picked up a bit Donald started with a bogey to be five behind, but Indian Jeev Milkha Singh birdied four of the first six to be joint second with Hansen and also Warren, who kicked off with a birdie.

Warren, also seeking the one Open Championship spot up for grabs, birdied the long second as well and with that moved into the joint lead with Molinari, who parred the opening two.
