A run of five straight birdies helped South African George Coetzee to a share of the clubhouse lead when the second round of the Barclays Singapore Open resumed at Sentosa.

After two days of lengthy weather delays, half the field had not began their second rounds when play was called off for the day on Friday, and as the event tried to make up for lost time Coetzee produced a best-of-the-week 63 to join England’s Chris Wood on seven under par.

The 26 year old, with 17 top-ten finishes on The European Tour but yet to win, started his remarkable run at the par five 18th – his ninth.

Having picked up five shots in as many holes, Coetzee added another birdie at the long seventh to round off his bogey-free effort.

Like Coetzee, Wood is yet to win on The European Tour after 17 top tens, but did have his maiden professional victory in Thailand in August on the OneAsia Tour.

The 24 year old birdied four of his last five holes for a second round 65 to join Coetzee on a seven under par halfway total.

Italy’s Francesco Molinari birdied the eighth – his 17th – upon the resumption and as a result advanced to six under with a 67, with overnight joint-leader Simon Dyson in the clubhouse on five under.

The other overnight leader, Thai Chapchai Nirat, started the day with a birdie but bogeyed the sixth and double bogeyed the seventh to slip back into a large group on four under.

Dane Thomas Björn, the leader after day one but unable to play a shot on Friday because of the lightning, was the best placed player out on the course.

He birdied the second to be one under for his round through six holes and join Molinari on six under.
