Jiménez will head to the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai armed with extra confidence after his victory in last week’s UBS Hong Kong Open.

The flamboyant Spaniard won the tournament for the third time in his career, and as a result rose to 29th in The Race to Dubai ahead of the season’s finale on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

“I’m hitting it really well at the moment, and winning a tournament the week before a big event like Dubai gives you a lot more confidence, of course,” said Jiménez, who became The European Tour’s oldest champion at 48 years and 318 days. “It’s the last tournament of the year, so it’s very important, and I hope to do well.

“This week, I need to start from zero, because it’s another tournament. But it’s very nice to know that what you are doing is the right thing, so I know that I’m in good form and hopefully I can get into contention over the weekend to win again.

“It’s a great tournament, and we all look forward to it. Hopefully I can make it two wins out of two – that would be very nice.”

In a week when there were two counting tournaments in The Race to Dubai, Henrik Stenson made sure of his place in the season’s climax by winning the SA Open Championship. The Swede was 59th last week but rose to 45th after claiming his first European Tour victory in more than five years.

Australian Andrew Dodt and England’s Tommy Fleetwood – last year’s Challenge Tour Number One – both retained their playing privileges for 2013 with gutsy performances at the final hour.

Dodt was 122nd at the start of the week but finished tied 37th in Hong Kong to move up to 118th, while Fleetwood was tied sixth in South Africa to jump from 124th to 109th.
