Kenneth Ferrie (EuropeanTour)
Kenneth Ferrie (EuropeanTour)
English duo Kenneth Ferrie and David Horsey fired themselves into contention at the Open de España as the third round got under way at Parador de El Saler.

Ferrie made a sizzling start by adding his name to a growing list of those to have eagled the par five third and picked up further shots at five and ten.

The upshot was the three-time European Tour winner being three under for the tournament, three shots adrift of overnight leader Peter Uihlein - who had yet to tee off.

Yet even his exploits could not match those of countryman Horsey, who - having also began the day one over - caught fire either side of the turn.

It appeared Horsey was set for another disappointing day when bogeys on the second and fifth came either side of a gain at three.

However, he turned things around in stunning fashion by picking up shots on three successive holes from the sixth.

Clearly buoyed, Horsey continued his fine form on the way in as further birdies came at ten, 13 and 14 to leave him four under overall.

Those were not the only two English players thriving, however; Paul Waring - whose back nine 68 yesterday undermined a promising start - birdied one and three to be alongside Horsey.

A shot further back were Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez and Germany’s Moritz Lampert, who were also enjoying impressive rounds.
