66 - Sergio Garcia and Joost Luiten share the first round lead after rounds of five under par.

18 - The last time Garcia held an 18-hole lead he won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February.

2011 - The Spaniard won at Real Club Valderrama the last time the tournament was held in 2011.

2004 - Garcia beat his lowest opening round at Valderrama by a single shot today. He opened with a 67 in the 2004 Volvo Masters Andalucia.

14 - Both Garcia and Luiten hit 14 Greens in Regulation today.

2 -  Garcia birdied every par three today, making him just the second man to birdie every par three here since 2002. Simon Dyson did the same at the 2007 Volvo Masters.

7 - It is also the seventh time this year that someone has birdied all four par threes in a round.

16 - The 433-yard par four 16th proved the toughest hole statistically on day one. It gave up just seven birdies and dealt 41 bogeys and 14 double-bogeys or worse.

1 - Jon Rahm is playing his first professional event in Spain this week.

101 - This week marks the last opportunity of the European Tour season for players to keep their tour cards. The top 101 players, plus the top ten in the Access List, will be back on tour next season.
