The ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth will have a distinct British flavour with Englishmen Lee Westwood and Tyrrell Hatton confirmed for the tournament to be played at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 8-11.

The duo is set to take their place in the event that has a thrilling six-hole match play format on the final day and is tri-sanctioned by the European Tour, ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, and Asian Tour.

Hatton, the current World Number 16, has enjoyed a successful year on the European Tour defending his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title and winning a Rolex Series event, the Italian Open, in successive weeks.

“I’m really looking forward to playing the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, it’s always great to play these different kinds of formats,” said the 26 year old.

“Match play is obviously always exciting; I heard great things from some of the guys that played in the tournament earlier this year so it should be a great week.”

Westwood’s impressive resume speaks for itself, the former World Number One has 23 European Tour victories to his name and has represented Europe on ten occasions in golf’s greatest team contest, The Ryder Cup. The 44 year old is no stranger to the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia having won the Australian Open in 1997 in a play-off over local hero Greg Norman.

“I’ve obviously got great memories of Australia and I can’t wait to get back there in February,” Westwood said.

"Golf tournaments with unique and innovative formats are a welcome change from the regular 72 hole stroke play events we usually play. I'm looking forward to experiencing it firsthand."

Dr Haruhisa Handa, Founder and Chariman of ISPS HANDA, has shared his excitement following the announcement of Westwood and Hatton.

“I am delighted to welcome Lee Westwood and Tyrrell Hatton to the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth,” Dr Handa said.

“Their participation in this unique format tournament will help further promote this great international platform, which is a true embodiment of the power of sport. We hope to see many local and international fans be part of these exciting few days and help further champion golf as an inclusive sport, accessible for all.”

WA Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said the state is excited to again have the golfing world’s eyes on Lake Karrinyup Country Club when the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth is headlined by the British stars.

“Westwood and Hatton are two fantastic names to kick off the field for next year’s ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth,” Papalia said

“They are well known, exciting players who will help attract good crowds to Lake Karrinyup and viewers from around the world.

“There was world-wide interest in the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth format when it debuted in February, in particular from some or our key Asian tourism markets including Singapore, China and Malaysia.

“This provides fantastic exposure for WA and significant changes to Perth in particular to potential visitors around the world, helping drive visitation.

"The tournament also delivers a boost in tourism numbers and spend through players, support teams and spectators visiting Perth."

Gavin Kirkman, CEO of the PGA of Australia which oversees the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia said the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth is ready to capitalise on the success of the 2017 tournament.

“It was great to see so many fans attend the first ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, we’ve taken some lessons from the first staging and look forward to bringing a bigger and better tournament to Lake Karrinyup Country Club in 2018,” Kirkman said.

“Having Tyrrell and Lee in the field will add some real star power to the event, they are two superstars on the European Tour and I look forward to welcoming them Down Under.”
