The Staysure Tour heads to Cornwall for the first time this week as the inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship hosted by Ian Woosnam gets under way at Trevose Golf Club.

Who will come out on top? We take a look at three players to keep an eye on.

José Cóceres

The Argentinian has enjoyed a fast start to his 2019 season, with two top-four finishes in just three outings on the Staysure Tour. Still searching for his breakthrough win on the over 50s circuit, Cóceres currently sits atop the Staysure Tour Order of Merit and will be looking to cement his place in the rankings with a strong finish this week.

A tenacious competitor, Cóceres first learnt the game by hitting rocks with a tree branch he had fashioned into a golf club. The 55-year-old would go on to win twice on the European Tour, at the 1994 Heineken Open Catalonia and the 2000 Dubai Desert Classic. Don’t be surprised if he’s near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.

Ian Woosnam

With 52 career victories, Woosnam is an apt host for this battle of golfing legends. Perhaps best known for his 1991 Masters Tournament victory, Woosnam remains one of the most recognisable names in the game, with two European Tour Order of Merit wins, 29 European Tour victories and a stellar Ryder Cup record among his many standout achievements.

The Welshman continued his winning form upon entering the senior ranks, securing five Staysure Tour titles, most recently at the 2014 Dutch Senior Open.

Can Woosnam get back in the winner’s circle by claiming his first Staysure Tour win for five years?

Gary Wolstenholme

One of Britain’s best amateur golfers, Wolstenholme is no stranger to links success having secured the first of his two Amateur Championship victories at Royal Troon Golf Club back in 2003.

The all-time leading points scorer for the GB&I Walker Cup team, the Englishman has continued his winning ways since turning professional in 2008 at the age of 47. Wolstenholme, who famously beat Tiger Woods in the 1995 Walker Cup, currently has three Staysure Tour victories to his name, including at the Casa Serana Open in just his second appearance on the over-50s circuit.

With two top 20 finishes in just three starts in 2019, including a T9 placing at the Senior Italian Open, expect a strong performance as he tees it up on home soil for the first time this season.
