The Staysure Tour returns to the popular spa town of Bad Ragaz, Switzerland complete with a star-studded field for the 22ndannual Swiss Seniors Open.
A Masters Tournament champion, two-time European Number One and a World Golf Hall of Fame Member, Ian Woosnam will look to add to his five Staysure Tour titles when he tees it up in The Alps. The Welshman famously captained Team Europe to a record-equalling 18 ½ - 9 ½ victory over Team USA at The Ryder Cup in 2006, which was held at The K Club in Ireland.
Ronan Rafferty, a teammate of Woosnam at the 1989 Ryder Cup — and a man who also earned the distinction as Europe’s Number One golfer that same year — will seek to add his first Staysure Tour victory to an impressive total of seven European Tour wins.
Jean van de Velde, a name known to golf fans everywhere, will make his season-debut at the Swiss Seniors Open as he searches for his first Staysure Tour trophy. One of France’s first golfing stars in the modern era, van de Velde also represented Europe at the 1999 Ryder Cup — known forever as ‘The Battle of Brookline’.
Another hero to his country, Costantino Rocca is considered by many to be the godfather of Italian golf. A European Ryder Cup team member, and runner-up at The 1995 Open, Rocca also had a front-row seat to history when he played alongside Tiger Woods on Sunday of the 1997 Masters as the phenom marched towards his record-breaking first Major Championship. Rocca enters the Swiss Seniors Open seeking his third win on the European over-50s circuit.
In all, there are 12 former Ryder Cup stars in the Swiss Seniors Open field, including Englishmen Barry Lane, Peter Baker and David Gilford, Welshman Phillip Price, Swede Jarmo Sandelin, Spaniard José Rivero, Scot Gordon Brand Jnr and Irishman Philip Walton.
The three-round Swiss Seniors Open runs from July 6-8 at Golf Club Bad Ragaz.
