Bossert believes his time is nigh

Having knocked on the door several times during his fledgling Senior Tour career, André Bossert is ready to burst it open in this week’s Swiss Seniors Open.

Bossert comes into the tournament in fine fettle, with consecutive top five finishes in Wales and Jersey preceding another encouraging performance in the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship, where he went into the final round in a share of eighth but slipped 11 places down the leaderboard after closing with a round of 78.

Bossert took some time off to recuperate after playing three tournaments in a row, and has been combining short game practice sessions on the range with fitness work in the gym in the build-up to his second appearance in the Swiss Seniors Open, where he is bidding to become the first home winner of the €300,000 event.

He said: “I needed a few days off after the PGA Seniors to allow my mind and body to recover. Then I started preparing for the Swiss Seniors, which is obviously a big week for me. I’ve been spending lots of time in the gym and working hard on my game, especially my short game, so hopefully it pays off for me this week.

“The strategy for the week is fairly simple, really: to keep the ball out of the trees, and to putt well. My putting recently has been getting much better, and my ball-striking has been pretty consistent, so if I can put it all together hopefully I should have another good week.”

For Bossert, who won the Air France Cannes Open on The European Tour and twice on the Challenge Tour, perhaps only a first victory in the over-50s ranks would truly constitute a good week.

In addition to his noteworthy performances this term, Bossert also secured a brace of top five finishes in his rookie season last year.

With confidence high and the support of the home crowds behind him, Bossert believes it is high time he converted that promise into silverware.

He said: “Obviously the plan is to win. My recent form is very good, I have been able to take more and more confidence from each event where I have been in contention, and I have learned more every time. I believe I’m close to my first victory on the Senior Tour, and hopefully it can come this week.

“I know the expectations on me are high, but I like that pressure and will use it as extra motivation to work harder and prepare better. It would be great to come down the stretch on Sunday afternoon with a chance of winning.”
