Entries now open for The Senior Open Presented by Rolex

Entries for The 2023 Senior Open Presented by Rolex are now open for both exempt and non-exempt players.

Senior Open trophy

Europe’s only Senior Major Championship will return to Royal Porthcawl Golf Club for a third time when it takes place from July 27-30, with Northern Irishman Darren Clarke bidding to defend the title he won last year at Gleneagles.

Non-exempt players can now enter one of four Qualifying Events, which are set to be staged at four outstanding venues.

Firestone Country Club, Akron, Ohio will host one of those qualifiers on Monday July 10, with the remaining three taking place in Wales on Monday July 24. Southerndown Golf Club, Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club – both in Bridgend – and Machynys Peninsula’s Monk’s Island, in Llanelli, will all host aspiring over-50s players hoping to earn a spot in the prestigious Championship on the stunning Welsh links.

David Williams, Tournament Director of The Senior Open Presented by Rolex, said: “It’s great to be able to open qualifying for The Senior Open Presented by Rolex where last year we saw almost 500 players attempt to qualify, with 48 earning a spot on the King’s Course at Gleneagles.

“This year we have four fantastic venues and courses ready to provide the perfect challenge for players hoping to secure a place in the main field. I would like to wish all of those that take part the best of luck.”

To be eligible for entry, players must be either male Professionals with a current Tour affiliation or PGA Membership, or male Amateurs with an exact handicap index of 0.4 (scratch) or lower under the World Handicap System, or the scheme adopted by the recognised authority controlling golf in their country.
