Montgomerie set for season finalé

Colin Montgomerie will sign off his first season as a senior golfer in Mauritius after confirming his participation in the MCB Tour Championship at Constance Belle Mare Plage, from December 13-15.

The victorious 2010 European Ryder Cup Captain has made a seamless transition to life on the over-50s circuit, claiming his maiden title in emphatic fashion at the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters in just his third Senior Tour appearance.

Montgomerie followed that six-stroke victory at Woburn Golf Club – his first title in six years – with a share of fourth place in the Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) in Moscow and currently lies 13th on the Order of Merit heading into the final event of the 2013 season.

A strong finish in Mauritius could see the eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner force his way into the top ten, with the 48-man field competing for a prize fund of €400,000.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first season on the Senior Tour and I’ve heard many good things about the MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius, so it should be an ideal place to end the year,” said Montgomerie.

“Winning at Woburn was obviously the highlight of my season, but it would be great to round the year off with another victory in Mauritius. I know Tom Lehman and David Frost have won the title in the past two years, so that tells you all about the quality of the tournament.”

The Scot will be joined in the field by another former Ryder Cup Captain, Sam Torrance, as well as defending champion Frost of South Africa, and the two players going head-to-head for the John Jacobs Trophy, England’s Paul Wesselingh and Denmark’s Steen Tinning.

Englishman Roger Chapman also returns to Senior Tour action at the venue where last year he lifted the John Jacobs Trophy, following a dream season in which he won both the US Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid and the US Senior Open.
