Tom Lehman and Ian Woosnam, rival captains at The 2006 Ryder Cup, will tee it up together for the first time in a European Senior Tour event, at the season-ending MCB Tour Championship at Constance Belle Mare Plage from December 8-10.
Woosnam emerged victorious at The K Club, as he led Europe to a record-equalling 18 ½ - 9 ½ victory over Lehman’s USA side.
Both winners of Major Championships, the pair headline the 50-man field, which includes ten other Ryder Cup players, as the Senior Tour returns to Mauritius for the seventh consecutive year.
Victorious 2014 Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, defending MCB Tour Championship winner Barry Lane and 2016 Senior Tour Number One Paul Broadhurst join them in the field, along with Peter Baker and Jarmo Sandelin, who will make their MCB Tour Championship debuts.
Gordon Brand Jnr, Phillip Price, Costantino Rocca, Des Smyth and Philip Walton make up the dozen Ryder Cup players.
For the first time since 2013, the John Jacobs Trophy, awarded to the golfer who finishes at the top of the Order of Merit, is still to play for heading into the final event, with seven players still in with a chance of winning.
Order of Merit leader Clark Dennis, winner of the Dutch Masters and Senior Italian Open presented by Villaverde Resort, has already wrapped up the Rookie of the Year Award, and has the opportunity to go one better as he leads by €25,000 from Chris Williams, winner of the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq.
Philip Golding, winner of the Travis Perkins Masters and Swiss Seniors Open, Magnus P Atlevi, Peter Fowler, Lane, who fired a record 12 under par round en route to his Willow Senior Golf Classic victory, and Broadhurst, winner of both the Paris Legends Championship and Scottish Senior Open also stand a chance of winning the John Jacobs Trophy.
In addition to Broadhurst and Woosnam as former winners of the John Jacobs Trophy are Roger Chapman, Fowler and Paul Wesselingh amongst 31 former Senior Tour winners.
Baker, who made his debut at October’s Farmfoods European Senior Masters, will look to build on his strong start to life on the over-50s circuit after finishing in a share of seventh at Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & CC; he is one of 35 former European Tour winners set to tee it up on the Legends Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage.
