Four-time European Tour champion Peter Senior has officially hung up his clubs after retiring six holes into the second round of the Emirates Australian Open.
With his son Mitch on the bag and wife June by his side, Senior departed the course as his aching body finally forced the 59 year old to call it a day.
It’s a tough one to swallow because I have been out here for nearly 40 years, and have enjoyed every minute.

It has been an incredible career spanning almost four decades, with Senior providing plenty of thrills along the way.
Senior has amassed a total of 34 career titles all over the world, including 23 on the PGA Tour of Australasia, four on the European Tour, three on the Japan Tour and one on the European Senior Tour.
He is also the only player to have won the Australian PGA Championship in his thirties, forties and fifties. In 2012, at the age of 53, he stunned the field to win the Emirates Australian Open.
Three years later Senior won the Australian Masters, and is the oldest winner of both Championships. He is also the only player in the history of the PGA Tour of Australasia to have won across five different decades.
For all his accolades, Senior’s fondest memories from his career will be of the people he has met along the way.
“The people surrounding the golf have been fantastic,” he said.
“The PGA guys and girls, all the tournament directors I have got to know, it’s sad that we won’t be getting together again.”
But while this is a sad day for golf, Senior believes the future of the game is in safe hands.
“There are always going to be good young guys coming through. I’ve always said sport runs in cycles, and we’ve got three or four really good guys coming through at the moment,” he said.
Senior reserved his final word of thanks for the fans.
“I can’t believe how many people have come down to watch me play in the later years of my life,” he said. “I really appreciate all the support.”
