Although the majority of players taking part will be from the European Senior Tour and PGA TOUR Champions, we’ll also see the best African, Asian, Australasian and South American golfers.

The Senior Open is truly a celebration of world golf with champions from around the world joining 2016 winner Paul Broadhurst in the star-studded 144-man field.

Last year, Carnoustie hosted golfers from Australia, China, Japan and South Africa to name but a few countries, including the first ever Ghanaian golfer to participate in a Senior Tour event after Emos Korblah successfully qualified for the championship on the Monday of the tournament week.

With at least 24 qualifying spots guaranteed, competition is sure to be fierce during event qualifying which takes place on a quartet of courses which neighbour Royal Porthcawl.

Ashburnham, Machynys, Pyle & Kenfig and Southerndown will play host to hundreds of golfers vying for a place in the Senior Tour’s most prestigious competition.

Machynys is a new addition to the selection of qualifying venues, and the other three courses were used in 2014 when the Senior Open was first played in Bridgend.
