Three to watch: Scottish Senior Open

The Staysure Tour heads to Craigielaw Golf Club for the 27th edition of the Scottish Senior Open. Here are three players to keep an eye on as they tackle the East Lothian links this week.

Paul Lawrie

James Kingston

The South African has three top three results this season, including two runner-up places with the last coming at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship two weeks ago. Kingston is closing in on an elusive over-50s victory after his last outing at London Golf Club.

The last two events on the Staysure Tour have both compromised of four rounds, but prior to The Senior Open Presented by Rolex and the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, Kingston carded three sub-70 rounds to finish third at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open.

If the two-time European Tour winner can continue his recent form over 54 holes, expect him to be challenging for the title on Sunday afternoon.

One of the home favourites in East Lothian, the 1999 Open Champion has won three times on home soil, twice on links layouts, and will be looking to add a maiden Staysure Tour title to his name this week.

Lawrie finished tied 16th in his last links appearance at The Senior Open Presented by Rolex at Royal Lytham & St Annes, but with the incentive to win once again on home soil the Scot will want to excel at Craigielaw.

Gary Evans

One of the leading rookies on the Staysure Tour this season, Evans has been one of the most consistent performers in 2019 with five top 20 finishes to his name, including a third place on the links at Trevose Golf & Country Club at the inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship.

The Englishman’s final round of 67, five under par, in wet and windy conditions saw him claim his best result in his debut season on the over-50s circuit. If Evans is to contend on the links layout this week, he will need to call upon his memories from the bogey-free final round from June.
