John Daly became the fifth European Senior Tour member in a row to win the Insperity Invitational as he claimed his first professional tournament victory in 13 years at The Woodlands CC.

The American, who made his debut in the same tournament on the PGA TOUR Champions circuit in 2016 shortly after turning 50, carded a final round 69 to finish three shots ahead of Tommy Armour III and Kenny Perry.

The two-time Major Champion follows in the footsteps of Jesper Parnevik, Ian Woosnam, Bernhard Langer and Esteban Toledo, as winners of the tournament over the last five years.

He went into the final round with a one-shot lead, which he quickly extended to three shots with an eagle on the first and a birdie on the third. He birdied the seventh and made three further gains on the back nine. Daly bogeyed the final three holes but held on to claim victory in Texas.

The 51 year old made his regular Senior Tour debut at the inaugural Paris Legends Championship in September 2016, and is set to return to Le Golf National, Paris for this year's edition.

Miguel Angel Jiménez finished in a share of seventh on eight under par, closely followed by fellow Senior Tour member Bernhard Langer who shared 18th place.

Paul McGinley and Jesper Parnevik finished tied for 22nd onfour under par, with Paul Broadhurst a shot further back in 28th place. On his return from an ankle injury, Colin Montgomerie finished tied 34th on two under, with Phillip Price and Esteban Toledo T40.

David Frost finished tied 46th, Ian Woosnam tied 52nd and Roger Chapman and Sandy Lyle tied 57th.

Daly is also one of a number of American stars who will tee it up at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club for the 2017 Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex in July.
