History: B-NL Challenge Trophy

The B-NL Challenge Trophy was introduced to the Challenge Tour schedule in 2021 and will be played in the Netherlands and Belgium in alternating years. The 2022 B-NL Challenge Trophy will take place at Hulencourt in Belgium.

A dramatic finale

Garcia trophy (2)

Alfredo Garcia-Heredia came out on top in a four-way seven man play-off to secure his first European Challenge Tour title at the 2021 B-NL Challenge.

The Spaniard carded a three under par round of 68 to move to an 11 under par total alongside Denmark’s Marcus Helligkilde, Iceland’s Haraldur Magnus and Northern Irishman Michael Hoey at The Dutch.

A dramatic play-off unfolded as Hoey fell at the first hurdle and Magnus at the third before Garcia-Heredia eventually birdied the seventh play-off hole to defeat Helligkilde, who could only manage a par.

Challenge Tour in the Netherlands

Taco Remkes

Events in the Netherlands have provided some memorable moments in the Challenge Tour’s prestigious history, including Taco Remkes victory on home soil in 2008. Remkes went on to secure three Challenge Tour victories in 2008 and finished third on the final Rankings to secure his European Tour card for the 2009 season. In 2009, Nicolas Colsaerts triumphed at the 2009 Dutch futures before going on to secure his DP World Tour card later that year and has since gone on to win three times on the top tier.

English battle in Belgium

Dale Whitnell

Dale Whitnell defeated countryman Laurie Canter in a two-hole play-off to emerge victorious at the 2019 KPMG Trophy in Belgium.

Whitnell began the final round three back of the lead, but nine birdies and only one bogey on the final day at Millennium Golf saw him card an eight under par 63 and post a 23 under par total.

Canter eagled the 72nd hole to send the tournament to a play-off, and after both players birdied the first extra hole, they played the 18th again. Whitnell birdied the par five 18th to seal victory as Canter failed to make an up and down.
