Lengden looking to make Rankings leap in Sweden

Oscar Lengden is hoping success on Swedish soil can catapult him into the top 20 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings as he prepares to tee it up in this week’s Indoor Golf Group Challenge at Allerum Golfklubb.

The Swede is currently 79th on the Road to Mallorca with only nine tournaments under his belt in 2022, of which he has finished inside the top ten only once at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge, but he is feeling confident with the season creeping towards its conclusion with just nine events left to play.

The two-time European Challenge Tour winner would relish the opportunity to claim victory in his home country, but is enjoying his time in Sweden regardless, with this week bringing the four-week Scandinavian Swing to a close.

“We are very lucky at the moment,” he said. “We are experiencing some really nice weather and some good golf courses as well, so it is really nice playing golf in Sweden at the moment.

“There is a lot of good golf courses with beautiful nature and views of the ocean and mountains.

“The Scandinavian Swing is a great period in the schedule for me because we get to play good golf courses and we’ve been lucky with the weather. It doesn’t take so much effort for me with travelling as well. I really enjoy this four-week swing. It would be a huge deal for me to win here in Sweden.”

The 30-year-old finished in a tie for 22nd place at last week’s Dormy Open and is placing an emphasis on an improvement in putting if he is to contend for his third Challenge Tour title before the season ends.

“The wins, they feel quite far away at the moment. It was a few years ago now and I would love to get back into the winner’s circle, but I know it’s a long way and you need a lot of chances to get there as well.

“I haven’t been playing that well. I’ve been playing decent but I have to start playing well and putting well. I have a lot of work to put in during the next seven or eight weeks we have left and if I do that I think I have a good chance of getting in the top 20.”

Joining Lengden in Helsingborg this week is Road to Mallorca Number One Freddy Schott, who will look to cement his place at the top of the Rankings, as well as Denmark’s Oliver Hundebøll and Norwegian Kristian Krogh Johannessen, who both occupy top ten spots on the Rankings.

The action is set to begin at 7:30am local time on Thursday August 25, with Lengden teeing it up alongside countryman Jesper Svensson and England’s Todd Clements at 1:30pm.
