Mory leads on home soil in France

Félix Mory will take a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Blot Open de Bretagne at Golf Bluegreen de Pléneuf Val André.

The Frenchman, who had 12 holes of his first round to finish at the start of day, completed his opening 18 holes in style, carding six birdies in a row for a seven under par 63.

It was a quick turnaround for his second round as a result of yesterday’s long delay due to fog, but Mory showed no signs of fatigue on his front nine, carding nine pars from the tenth, his first hole.

A stumble came early into his back nine with a double-bogey at the second and a further dropped shot came at the sixth. However, he bounced back finishing birdie-par-birdie for a round of 71 to lead at six under par.

“I’m fairly happy with my second round,” he said.

“I felt the course was playing much harder this afternoon and some of the pins were tucked in the corners. The course got a lot firmer between the two rounds and I felt like I was playing a different course. It was into the wind on a few of the tough holes, like 14, so it was challenging.

“I started on ten and made all pars on that side and then made a double bogey on two, but that can happen quickly around here. I was two over after 11 holes but playing well, so I stayed patient and made a couple of birdies to finish, which I’m pretty happy about.

“I felt like I was playing well for the whole round. This is a course with thick rough and firm greens and it’s easy to make bogeys quickly. I was three over after 15 holes, but I stayed patient and played my game and made two birdies at the end.”

Fellow countryman Tom Vaillant and England’s Lee Slattery, who recorded a five under par 65 for his lowest round of the season, sit a shot behind at five under par. Meanwhile, Matt Ford, Stuart Manley and Jarand Ekeland Arnoy are yet to complete their second rounds but currently share second place with Vaillant and Slattery.

Players who have not finished their second round will begin at 7:50am local time, with the third round not due to start before 12:30pm, as the second round was suspended due to fading light.
