The Englishman has had a meteoric rise up the golfing ranks since the start of the year which began on the MENA Tour. A win there saw him earn invites to eight Clutch Pro Tour events. Three wins from eight starts followed, leading to a first start on the Challenge Tour last week at the Irish Challenge where he produced rounds of 69-64-72-67 to claim a memorable two-stroke victory.

The 30-year-old successfully made it through Final Qualifying for The 151st Open last month too, and teed it up in his first major at Royal Liverpool Golf Club a week before winning in Ireland to cap an unforgettable few months.

“I’ve had a little bit of time to reflect but not a lot,” he said. “We’ve travelled from Ireland all the way down to Cornwall, so we’ve had a big travel day, but just thinking about it out loud, I’m obviously over the moon.

“The win couldn’t have come at a better time for me, directly after The Open which brought with it a nice flow of good thoughts and feelings. The Open was my first major and combined with my first win in my first ever Challenge Tour event, it’s been an incredible experience.”

Robinson Thompson doesn’t want those experiences to stop any time soon, with his attention now turning to promotion to the DP World Tour and a place in the top 20 in the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

“Promotion was the goal when I got the invites to play on the Challenge Tour,” he added. “Now I’m in the hunt for the top 20. The sky is the limit and I’m just going to keep rolling.

“I played at St. Mellion on the Clutch Pro Tour earlier in the year. It’s a great golf course, the green complexes are as good as they get difficulty wise and it’s really narrow off the tee. It’s going to be a good challenge and I’m really looking forward to getting out there again and competing.”

Robinson Thompson joins a strong field on the south coast of England that will see eight of the top ten in the Road to Mallorca Rankings tee it up, including the top three, Casey Jarvis, Ugo Coussaud and Matteo Manassero.

Play begins at 7:30am local time with Robinson Thompson teeing off alongside Scotsman Euan Walker and fellow Englishman Gary Boyd at 8:30am.
