Sebastian Friedrichsen has enjoyed a positive season on the Road to Mallorca and currently sits in 35th place on the season-long Rankings. As we approach the business end of the campaign, he reflects on the season so far, his goals, idols growing up, and builds his dream golfer ahead of the Rosa Challenge Tour.
What is your favourite memory from this season so far?
I really enjoyed playing in Sweden last week, actually. It’s just a great course and such a great setup. I think Estonia was a nice place, as well. It was a new country for me, and I think that was pretty cool. I think they’re my two favourite weeks so far this year.
What have you learned about your game this year?
I've learned that a lot of the stuff is pretty close, but I need to work hard every day on every aspect of the game, and don't take things too easy. I'm more trying to work on things because I need them in five years as I will need it to be playing at a higher level, which is hopefully what I eventually do. So, I'll just try to, like, practice my hardest every day and just develop my game, for competing on this tour right now and for the future too.
What targets did you set yourself at the start of the year?
I mean, the goal has been making the top 15 all year and that's still the goal. Obviously, at the beginning of the season, you kind of want to get into it but it’s important that you don't take things too easy, and maybe I did that a little too much in the beginning. I’ve not had the results I wanted this year but top 15 has been the goal the whole time, and I’m in an okay space at the minute.
Who was your favourite golfer growing up, is there anyone you try and model your game off of?
When I started playing golf more seriously, it was Jordan Spieth. I think he was fun, and he was very good at that time. Around the time when I started playing more golf was when he was very good, he was at the top of his game. He gives his all every time, even though he's been struggling for some years.
If you could build your dream golfer, with one player for each of the following attributes, who would you chose for each one?
Driving distance: It would be easy to pick Scottie Scheffler, but I'll go with my Danish colleague out here, Victor Bjorlow. I play some practice rounds with him, and I'm just so far behind every time, so I'd like to catch up to him.
Driving accuracy: I'll stick with the Danish trend. I think, uh, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen has been driving it really well on the PGA tour this year. So I’d like to hit it as straight as him.
Approach Play: I can’t take anyone else than Scottie Scheffler.
Putting: I'll go with my Danish friend as well, Jacob Skov Olesen. He's been putting pretty good this year.
Mentality: Tiger Woods in his prime. He was just brutal. Could beat anyone.
