Three to watch: Challenge Tour Grand Final

The final event of the season has arrived with the Challenge Tour Grand Final taking place from November 19-22. With just 45 players completing the field, we have picked out three to keep an eye on this week.

The Rankings leader. Marcel Schneider will this week look to become the first German player to top the Road to Mallorca Rankings at the end of what has been a strong campaign. The 30-year-old came second at the Austrian Open in July before earning a tie for second place at the Italian Challenge Open Eneos Motor Oil in October, losing in a play-off to countryman Hurly Long, which cemented his position at the top of the Rankings. Pep Angles’ victory at last week’s Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz means Schneider’s lead at the top has been cut considerably, but he is still the man in control as it stands.

The 29-year-old bounced back from a four over par round of 76 in round three to triumph in Oman and join the illustrious list of Grand Final and Rankings winners as he graduated to the European Tour. He is now back and, although he has not tasted success since that victory, having the knowhow to get the job done is always an important trait to possess.

Since then, he has clocked up four top tens in five starts, with his only other finish being a tie for 42nd place at the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos. Since then, he finished tied eighth in Italy before recording back-to-back tied ninth place finishes at the Andalucía Challenge de España and the Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz. Momentum is one of the most important things in sport, and that is one thing that Blomstrand has plenty of.
