Three to watch: Foshan Open

With the big-money Foshan Open set to get under way at Foshan Golf Club from October 24-27, we have picked out three players to keep an eye on this week.

Borja Virto

The Spaniard has, by his own high standards, has had a disappointing season on the European Challenge Tour, however he can still extend his campaign with a successful tournament in China.

Virto is currently 74th on the Road to Mallorca and is set to miss out on a spot in the Challenge Tour Grand Final, however that can all change this week. The 28-year-old won the Foshan Open in 2015 and knows the golf course well, meaning there is no better place to fight for a place in the top 45 and secure an emotional berth in the field for the Challenge Tour Grand Final.

Grégory Havret

The experienced Frenchmen enjoyed a positive start to the season, with four top ten finishes in ten starts prior to the beginning of August. His form since, however, has been hit and miss, having missed four cuts in eight starts, which has seen him slip to 24th on the Road to Mallorca. However, if there is anyone who will be accustomed to the big-feel nature of the Foshan Open, it is Havret. The 42-year-old is a three-time European Tour winner and will not be fazed by the big crowds which are certain to stream the fairways on Sunday.

Cormac Sharvin

The Northern Irishman is one of only two players in the top 15 not to have won this season, with the other being England’s Richard Bland. Sharvin has shown extreme consistency throughout the campaign and has missed only three cuts in his 14 starts, finishing in the top ten on eight of those occasions, in addition to finishing as low-Irishman at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in July. Now assured of his European Tour card for 2020, the only thing missing from Sharvin’s season is a victory, which could arrive this week and send him to Number One on the Road to Mallorca.
