Lars Van Der Vight became the fourth player in HotelPlanner Tour history to card a round of 59 as he signed for the magic number at the German Challenge powered by VcG on Friday.
The 23-year-old joins Adrien Mörk, Nicolo Ravano and Lauri Ruuska to have shot 59 at a HotelPlanner Tour event and is the first player to do so since Ruuska in 2023.
Mörk was the first player to do so in 2006 during the second round of the Tikida Hotels Agadir Moroccan Classic. Rovano joined the Frenchman ten years later when he posted 59 at the 2016 Fred Olsen Challenge de España, also in the second round. Ruuska then achieved the feat with a 59 at the 2023 Vierumäki Finnish Challenge.
The only player to have bettered their total is Spain's Alejandro Del Rey, who posted a record score of 58 on day two of the Swiss Challenge in 2021.
Van Der Vight went out in 28 on the front nine at Wittelsbacher Golfclub, making eight birdies and a par before he made the turn. Two further birdies over the next five holes left Van Der Vight needing three gains in four to sign for 59. He made an eagle at the par five 15, and birdied 17, needing par at the last to complete a memorable round.
“I’m still shaking after that two-foot putt on 18,” he said. “It felt like 20.
“I didn’t want to say anything and jinx myself after the second shot on 15 that made it to the green
“My heart was racing on 18. I was shaking and I was nervous, but it was fun.”
