Euan Walker is looking to continue his good form when he tees it up in the Euram Bank Open at GC Adamstal.
The Scotsman has registered four top ten finishes from his last five outings, including in back-to-back events ahead of this week, to climb up to 33rd on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.
The 27-year-old finished tied fifth at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge and followed that by sharing tenth place at the Italian Challenge Open last time out, and he’s pleased to be finding form at the right time ahead of a demanding week in the Austrian hills.
“I’ve been playing quite nicely,” he said. “I’m just trying to do my best to keep that going as long as I can.
“I’ve been doing a lot of things quite well. From driving to putting, there hasn’t been one thing I’ve done brilliantly but everything is going more how I’d like it to.
“It is quite a challenging course. It’s not that long but you’ve got to be in position off the tee. There are quite a few courses we’ve played like that recently. The key is getting it in the fairway to give yourself a chance to make birdie, but if you’re not, you’ll be scrambling for par or bogey.”
Walker, who claimed a maiden European Challenge Tour win at the British Challenge presented by Modest! Golf Management last year, finished agonisingly close to earning promotion to the DP World Tour in 2022, eventually finishing in 24th in the Rankings.
The Scot is within reach of a place in the top 20 once again and, having finished in a tie for third place on the same course in Austria last year, he’s enjoying being back at a venue that kick-started his push towards promotion 12 months ago.
“It’s the most beautiful course we play,” he added. “You get to the top and you’re looking out over the valley. Some of the holes, in particular the sixth and the 17th, are quite dramatic.
“I really enjoyed it last year, so if I can do something similar again that would be great. It was the first course that I’d really played well on over the course of last season.
“When you’re playing well, I think subconsciously you can start thinking more about your place in the Rankings, but for me the week-to-week goal is still the same. I’ll be trying to enjoy it and play the best I can.”
Walker joins a strong field in Austria that includes Road to Mallorca Number Two and four-time DP World Tour winner Matteo Manassero, two-time DP World Tour winner Tom Lewis and the last two winners of the Euram Bank Open, Stuart Manley and Marc Hammer.
Play gets under way on Thursday at 7:30am local time with Walker teeing off alongside Manassero and Hammer at 8:30am.
