Winning is all that matters for Kristensen

Nicolai Kristensen revealed he only had one thing on his mind as he entered the play-off at the D+D Real Czech Challenge and that one thing was winning.

The Dane secured his maiden European Challenge Tour title in the Czech Republic after tying with long-time leader Ugo Coussaud before defeating the Frenchman on the first extra hole.

It was a victory that has been coming for the Dane, who had one runner-up finish and three top tens in 2021, and he revealed his mindset after reaching the play-off was focused on one thing only.

“It was a good course last week. It was a bit challenging, they’d changed a few par fives to par fours. I started out playing really well, kept doing that, but Ugo was playing amazing as well. He was leading by a lot of shots but I just kept going and at the end we were close for the last five holes.

“My mindset in the play-off was just focussed on winning. Honestly, because I was in the play-off, I knew I couldn’t lose anything. It was all about winning. I was going to do everything I could to do it. And I did it.

“It feels amazing. Amazing. I didn’t celebrate it because I didn’t have any time. I had to come straight down here so I just had one day off with my fiancée and it was lovely.”

Kristensen’s attention now turns to this week’s Empordà Challenge at Empordà Golf, which the Dane outlines as a particular highlight on the Road to Mallorca International Schedule.

“It’s lovely down here. I know this course from last year, when we played in October, and it’s a great course out here. It’s a bit different to last week but it’s a good challenge out here.

“It’s the perfect place. We’re staying here on site. The hotel is perfect. It looks brand new, the food is good, everything is good here, everything is in walking distance which is perfect with the amount of travelling we do.”
