Adri Arnaus is hoping he can realise his goal of earning an immediate return to the DP World Tour as a shot at history awaits at this week’s Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A.
The Spaniard arrives at Club de Golf Alcanada in 38th place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings as the top 45 players contest the season-ending event on the HotelPlanner Tour.
With the top 20 on the Rankings earning a DP World Tour card come Sunday evening, Arnaus needs to at least finish in the top six this week and hope other results go his way if he is to claim his card back on Golf’s Global Tour.
Victory this week would see him become the first player to win the HotelPlanner Tour's season finale on two separate occasions, after going wire-to-wire at the 2018 edition when it was held in Ras Al Khaimah.
“I've always enjoyed finals in general, and I always feel like it’s a little bit of a reward for a pretty solid season," he said.
"You come out here with only one goal to try and top off a good season, get the win and at the end just enjoy the week because, as I said, it's a little bit of a treat after a good season.
"Obviously [getting a DP World Tour card] is the goal since we started the season.
"So, at the end it would mean a goal completed but more than anything I think satisfaction of doing a good job."
On the opportunity to make history, he added: "I mean that would be fantastic.
"I am thinking one day at a time, but hopefully I can have the chance on Sunday. I am just focusing on playing good golf."
Since losing his DP World Tour card last year, after six seasons at that level in which he entered the winner's circle on home soil in 2022, he has registered seven top 20s with his best finish a tie for fourth at the UAE Challenge in April.
While pleased with the consistency he has displayed across the Road to Mallorca campaign, Arnaus is most pleased by the renewed enjoyment he is taking from the game.
"I'm pleased because my game is evolving in the right direction," said the 31-year-old, who had had the honour of hitting the opening tee shot of the HotelPlanner Tour season in South Africa in January.
"Sooner or later I will have that opportunity again [to compete on the DP World Tour]. Maybe next week, next year... I don't know.
"It's been a journey, a process. I think it's a matter of enjoying [the challenge]."
