Challenge de España: Three to Watch

The HotelPlanner Tour returns to Spanish shores this week for the Challenge de España at Isla Canela Links in the southwest corner of the country. Here are three players to keep an eye on…

Form horse: Maxence Giboudot

Maxence Giboudot

Frenchman Maxence Giboudot arrives at Isla Canela fresh off a second-place finish at the Danish Golf Challenge, where Finland’s Tapio Pulkkanen triumphed in a play-off after the pair couldn’t be separated on 18 under par. Despite coming up short in Denmark, Giboudot’s performance was a continuation of a fine run of form, which sees the 22-year-old fifth in the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

The Frenchman’s tied for third finish at the season-opening SDC Open was followed up by a top 15 in Cape Town the following week. Since then, Giboudot has notched four top 30 finishes and is certainly one to watch as he targets his maiden HotelPlanner Tour title.

Local boy: Joel Moscatel

Joel Moscatel is eyeing a second Challenge de España title in three years this week. The home favourite triumphed in Seville back in 2024 on his way to securing a first promotion to the DP World Tour. Despite returning to the HotelPlanner this year, Moscatel will tee it up on home soil off the back of an impressive outing at the Challenge de Catalunya, where he ended the week inside the top 25 on 14 under par.

With fond memories of this event, Moscatel kickstarting his 2026 season isn’t out of the question this week.

Outsider: Canon Claycomb

Canon Claycomb

Canon Claycomb will tee it up at Isla Canela with a little more local knowledge than most. The American fired three rounds in the 60s at the Spanish course during last year’s DP World Tour Second Stage Qualifying School on his way to securing passage through to Final Stage at INFINITUM.

Claycomb’s form around Isla Canela, coupled with what’s been an impressive start to the 2026 season, with two top 15 finishes in his last three starts, means he could well be a threat this week.
