The Road to Mallorca returns this week, for the DP World PGTI Open at Classic Golf & Country Club in Delhi, a co-sanctioned event between the HotelPlanner Tour and the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). Here’s all you need to know…
Delhi Memories
The HotelPlanner Tour returns to Classic Golf & Country Club for the third consecutive year, after successful trips to Delhi in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, Englishman John Parry took the title, finishing the weekend on 20 under par, one shot ahead of a three-way tie for second place. That result marked Parry’s first win in 14 years and sparked a sensational surge in Official World Golf Rankings. Fast forward two years, and he has two more HotelPlanner Tour titles to his name, a first DP World Tour title since 2010 and has dual membership with PGA TOUR as the world number 83. In 2025, Spaniard Quim Vidal took the crown, coming through a play-off to beat Englishman Joshua Berry. Vidal would go on to secure promotion to the DP World Tour by the season’s end.
Kieffer returns
Maximilian Kieffer returns to India, the nation of his maiden HotelPlanner Tour win in the Gujarat Kensville Challenge in 2012 with a play-off victory over Rahil Gangjee after the pair were tied at seven under after 72 holes. The win marked the start of a remarkable campaign for Kieffer, who earned his card on the DP World Tour at its conclusion. The German would spend the next 13 years on Golf’s Global Tour, where he became a winner in 2022 in the D+D Real Czech Masters. Kieffer, who returned to the HotelPlanner Tour with a tied 18th finish at the CIRCA Cape Town Open last month, will be looking to replicate his success from 2012 in a country that holds fond memories.
Classic Golf & Country Club
Situated 37 kilometres south of Delhi, Classic Golf & Country Club was South Asia’s first ever 27-hole signature course and was designed by Jack Nicklaus. The championship course plays host to the backdrop of the picturesque Aravalli mountains. In 2000, Classic Golf & Country Club became the first ‘private club’ to host the Indian Open and hosted it for the second time, a year later, in 2001.
