The German Challenge powered by VcG takes place this week at Wittelsbacher Golfclub. Here are three players to keep an eye on…
Form Horse: Hamish Brown
Hamish Brown recorded his third second place finish of the season at the La Vaudreuil Golf Challenge last week, finishing one-stroke behind winner Julien Sale. The Dane has come close on three occasions this term, narrowly missing out on victory via a play-off defeat at the Challenge de Catalunya in May, before finishing in a tie for second at the Swiss Challenge. Brown has made the cut in eight of his nine starts on the 2026 Road to Mallorca and currently sits in third on the season-long Rankings.
The 27-year-old already has two HotelPlanner Tour wins to his name, both coming in 2024 on his way to earning promotion to the DP World Tour. Brown will be looking to strengthen his grip on promotion back to Golf’s Global Tour this week with a positive result in Germany.
Local boy: Yannik Paul
Born less than 200 miles away from this week’s venue in Frankfurt, Yannik Paul will be out to impress on home soil, as he looks for a full return to the DP World Tour where he has enjoyed plenty of past success.
The German has a DP World Tour win to his name, but has struggled for form of late, and has made just three cuts this season where he has mixed starts on theRoad to Mallorca with appearances on the DP World Tour.
Paul recorded his only top ten finish of the year at Blot Play9 two weeks ago, where he ended the week in a tie for ninth place, before heading home to Germany to feature at the BMW International Open on the DP World Tour but missed the cut with an opening round of 74. Nonetheless, the 32-year-old has a winning pedigree, and will be looking to find some consistency as he looks to earn all-important Road to Mallorca points.
Outsider: Kristian Krogh Johannessen
Norway’s Kristian Krogh Johannessen climbed an impressive ten places on the Road to Mallorca rankings with a third-place finish in France last week, taking him to just one spot outside of the all-important promotion places. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a positive start to the season, with just one missed cut in six starts, and had to settle for a runner up finish at the English Open supported by HotelPlanner, where he took eventual winner John Catlin to a seven-hole play-off last month.
With plenty of DP World Tour experience to his name, Johannessen will be looking to earn his spot back on Golf’s Global Tour with a second HotelPlanner Tour win.
