In an initiative driven by National Bank of Oman, Provision Events have put together a fun introduction to the game featuring two golf simulators, practice nets and a mini golf course.

“We have definitely had a lot more kids through the gates than we did last year and the Omanis have outnumbered the ex-pats,” says Andy Gealy of ProVision Events. “There have been a few ex-pat youngsters but the majority have been Omanis.

"This year the youngsters have actually been asking for lessons which was not the case previously when they seemed too shy to ask if they could learn to play. The kids particularly like the simulator.

“It’s a good sign for the future of golf in Oman. The kids have been coming here to learn and then going out on the course to watch the play, and coming back for more lessons. They have much more knowledge about the game this year as they did before.

“It’s great to see new people taking an interest in the game and enjoying it. We’ve been to a lot of emerging golf countries at Tour events over the years and it’s very rewarding for us to see the kids getting involved.

“We’ll be here again tomorrow and we’d love to see as many people as to possible to show them that golf is a fun game to play.”

Scott McDonald, a keen golfer who lives in Oman, commented: “I’ve brought my three young girls here to have a bit of fun learning to swing a golf club. They’re having a great time and they’re certainly enjoying themselves. I’d like them to take up the game as they get a little older but this is a great way of introducing them to golf.”
