The overnight leader made six birdies and a hole-out eagle in the round to move clear of Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand and Scotsman Graeme Robertson, who shot 65 and 64 respectively.

Gøth-Rasmussen was delighted that he was able to follow up his stunning opening round and keep his lead going into the weekend in Finland.

“Yes, very happy with today’s work,” he said. “It’s always tough to follow up a good round so very pleased.

“I don’t think the course played very differently. It was slightly windier today but very similar conditions.

“My mindset was just to keep on going today. I wasn’t looking at leaderboards or anything, I just kept my head down and went to work.”

Playing in the afternoon wave, Gøth-Rasmussen started his second round four shots adrift of Blomstrand but was unperturbed, picking up three birdies on the outward nine.

The Dane then leapt to five under for the day thanks to a hole-out eagle on 12, finding the cup from the fairway to regain his first-round lead.

He backed up the eagle with another birdie on the driveable 13th, before finding gains on 16 and 18 to bounce back from consecutive bogeys on holes 14 and 15.

Gøth-Rasmussen says he won’t be changing his approach entering the weekend, but is looking forward to competing against the other Nordic golfers at the top of the leaderboard.

“I'll just keep plugging away, keep being aggressive and hitting good shots,” he added.

“It’s good to see lots of other Nordic golfers on the leaderboard, it’s good fun. We practice and play together a lot, us Nordics, so it’s good to see them up there.

“I’m just going to do my best over the weekend.”

Further back in solo fourth is German Dominic Foos, who tied the lowest round of the week by shooting nine under par, taking him 38 places up the leaderboard and to 12 under.

Finn Kalle Samooja continued his fine form to sit a shot further back, in a tie for fifth with Swede Adam Blomme, Spaniard Antonio Hortal and American John Catlin.

Round three begins at 7:30am local time on Saturday, with Gøth-Rasmussen teeing off alongside Robertson and Blomstrand at 11:41am.
