John Gough is a two-time HotelPlanner Tour winner after sealing a memorable victory at the Rosa Challenge Tour in Poland.
The Englishman battled through difficult weekend conditions at Rosa Golf Club to post a closing three under par 67 to reach 12 under, one stroke clear of his compatriot Andrew Wilson.
Gough claimed his maiden HotelPlanner Tour title at Blot Play9 in Britany earlier this year, with the triumph in Konopiska propelling the 27-year-old to fifth on the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings and in a promising position to secure promotion to the DP World Tour for the 2027 season.
“I’m over the moon to get it done,” he said. “I really like it here. It was a bit stressful coming in, but I’m very happy to have got it done out there.
“I made two nice putts coming in, which was definitely needed.”
Gough carded an opening round of six under par 64, before a three over 73 on Friday momentarily halted his momentum. He bounced back brilliantly on Saturday and despite the difficult conditions in Poland, carded his second 64 of the week to move into the lead heading into the final day.
After a tense front nine for the players atop of the bunched leaderboard, Gough made the turn level par after conceding his gain at the seventh on the following hole. The Englishman, however, got his round going on the par four eleventh, a birdie sparking a run where he made two more gains in his next three holes to reach twelve under par for the week.
“This week was a bit up-and-down really,” he added. “I played really nice on Thursday and Saturday, and it’s always nice being in the final group but it was so bunched at the start of the day.
“I looked at the leaderboards out there and knew it just took a couple of shots, and it was nice having Andy in my group then, as we really bounced off each other, and credit to him as he played so good.”
Gough, who sealed victory with a closing par after a long birdie putt was left just five feet from the hole, was pleased with how he delivered during the key moments of a closely fought final round.
With the win, the Englishman all but secures promotion to the DP World Tour as the end of season nears but will not be taking his foot off the accelerator.
“Obviously it helps me a lot. There’s still a lot of golf to play.
“I think I kind of needed it, I had a little lull in my game for a while. I have been playing nice but just not getting any results.
“When you play well, you need to make the most of it and I can show that with my two wins this year, I have been inconsistent, but when I’ve played well, I’ve had good results.”
Frenchman Julien Brun posted a closing 69 to reach nine under par and finish solo third, one stroke ahead of German Hurly Long and Englishman Callum Tarren who carded final rounds of 67 and 69 respectively to share fourth.
Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand remains at the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings, with Spaniard Pablo Ereno, South African MJ Daffue and Frenchman Julian Sale retaining their spots inside the top five. Dane Hamish Brown drops to sixth.
The Road to Mallorca now heads to Reading, England, for the English Trophy, taking place at The Caversham from September 10–13.
