Heath on the hunt in France

James Heath will go on the hunt for the Open Blue Green Côtes d’Amour Bretagne looking to build on the third place finish in Northern Ireland that saw the Englishman make a significant stride up the Challenge Tour Rankings.

Heath leaped from 136thto 67thin the Rankings following his tied third place finish last week and the Englishman is hopeful he has kick-started a late charge towards the 2014 European Tour.

With just six events remaining of the 2013 Challenge Tour season before the 15 available European Tour cards are handed out at the Grand Final in Dubai, Heath knows he has to maintain the form that saw him finish one shot shy of the play-off between Daan Huizing and second placed Oliver Wilson on Sunday.

“It’s always nice to make a big jump like I had at the weekend but I need to keep producing performances like until the end of the year if I want to get into that top 15,” said the Englishman.

“Obviously I would rather be up there at the moment, but the fact of the matter is that I haven’t gotten the results thus far and I need to focus on playing like I did last week and trying to get a win before the end of the season.

“I have taken a lot of confidence from how I played last week. The golf course last week was a very good test in some difficult conditions at points and I had two bogey free rounds which made a huge difference.

“I have been working hard on eliminating the silly mistakes and dropped shots and I feel like I am improving so I am looking forward to getting to France and trying to build some momentum for the last few events of the year.”

Heath will be joined in France by the man he finished alongside last week, Jamie McLeary. The Scot moved to 27thin the Rankings on Sunday and is keen to break into that all-important top 15 at the Golf Blue Green de Pléneuf Val André.

The home challenge, meanwhile, will once again be led by François Calmels, who continues his quest for the third victory of the season that would see him follow Brooks Koepka straight to The European Tour to begin a new chapter in his career.
