Pullman El Jadida Royal Golf and Spa will host the eighth edition of the Moroccan Classic, won last year by Englishman Robert Coles. Coles’ second Challenge Tour title – he would later add a third at the Challenge of Ireland presented by Moyvalley – proved to be the catalyst for a superb season which culminated in him graduating to The European Tour in tenth place in the Rankings. Coles opened with a 69, before adding rounds of 67 and 71 to establish a three-shot lead heading into the fourth and final day. Any nerves were promptly dispelled with consecutive birdies on his first three holes and he would eventually finish on 13 under par, four shots clear of runner-up Matthew Zions of Australia with France’s Julien Quesne – who graduated to The European Tour alongside Coles – two shots further back in third. The win broke a six-year drought for Coles, whose maiden victory came at the 2003 BA-CA Golf Open. In previous seasons, the title has been won by Ireland’s Michael Hoey, Frenchman Jean-François Lucquin and England’s Graeme Storm, all of whom would subsequently go on to secure European Tour titles. The 2006 event was also notable for Frenchman Adrien Mörk’s record-breaking round of 59.
