Muscat schoolkids enjoy the action at Almouj

The children from the British School in Muscat received a real treat with a visit to the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic at Almouj Golf, The Wave, which included a spellbinding trick-shot show.

As well as getting a chance to witness the stars of the future competing in one of the European Challenge Tour’s most prestigious events, the highlight of the children’s visit was a special fun show performed by renowned trick shot artist David Edwards.

The Englishman, who also performed at last year’s inaugural National Bank of Oman Golf Classic, is a regular at tour events around the globe, and he had the kids in fits of laughter with a specially tailored show that saw him doing impersonations of famous golfers such as Ian Poulter and Colin Montgomerie as well as dazzling them with his repertoire of trick shots.

“It’s great to come back to the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic,” said Edwards who will be performing every day during the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic.

“My aim with the kids show was to try and get these children interested in this great game. Golf is pretty new in Oman but it was great to see that when I asked how many of them would like to play golf, every one of their hands went up. It’s great to see such enthusiasm.  If I can introduce a fun element to it you might just see one or two of them take up the game and that would be great.

“When I mentioned Rory McIlroy during the show there was a real buzz of excitement. Rory really is their idol and my aim is to break down the barriers of coming to a golf club for them so they see golf clubs as a fun place to come. Hopefully some will come back to watch the rest of the tournament and, you never know, we might just see a star player in the future from Oman.”
