Event 24 out of 28 this week in Portugal on the HotelPlanner Tour as the race for Road to Mallorca Ranking points starts to heat up. After six years at Royal Óbidos it is a fresh venue for the 2026 edition, in PGA Aroeira No.1, and here are three to look out for on the course…
Form Horse: Kristian Hjort Bressum
Kristian Hjort Bressum did not get his season off to the start he would’ve hoped for, having to wait until his ninth event in June to make his first cut, and only making one in his first eleven events. But the Dane found something at the Raiffeisenbank Golf Challenge, where rounds of 74-62-66-66 saw him to a tied fourth place finish. Since then, Bressum has made five of his last seven cuts, finishing in the top 30 each time that he’s made the weekend. His season best finish came last time out at the English Trophy, where a total of 19 under par earned him a solo third and a move up to 52nd in the Road to Mallorca Rankings. The Dane will be hoping to back up that finish this week in Portugal to try and reach the top 45, and a place in the Grand Final.
Local Boy: Pedro Figueiredo
Pedro Figueiredo enters the week in 13th in the season-long Rankings and with an excellent chance of graduating to the DP World Tour for a second time. He did so for the first time in 2018, finishing 15th and earning his only HotelPlanner Tour title to date at the KPMG Trophy in Belgium via a three-man play-off. This week on home soil provides a huge opportunity for the Lisbon resident to cement his place in the top 15 and delight the home fans at the same time. Figueiredo did not have the best record at Royal Óbidos, the host for the last six editions of the Open de Portugal, so will be hoping a new venue less than an hour from his home will bring him more fortune.
Outsider: Ronan Kleu
When Frederik Kjettrup bogeyed the 16th hole in the final round of the English Trophy last week, it left clubhouse leader Ronan Kleu in first place on his own. The Swiss had shot a final round 63 to vault up the leaderboard and give himself a great look at a maiden HotelPlanner Tour win. However, Kjettrup would then birdie the 71st and 72nd holes to seal the win by one shot, holing a winding, long-range putt on the last to leave Kleu agonisingly short. But it meant valuable Rankings points were accrued by the 26-year-old, who moved up 64 places to 45th and on the bubble for the Grand Final – he will be itching to go one step further this week in Portugal.
